Java Love is a Kenyan coffee brand specialised in canned coffee drinks. Bold in flavour and rich in caffeine, these beverages rival traditional energy drinks. The brand's vibrant, Kenyan art-inspired patterns celebrate its origins and values, creating a strong connection to its Kenyan roots.

Colour plays a vital role in Java Love's visual identity and serves as one of its' key elements. The logo features a bold combination of black and yellow, inspired by the high prevalence of this colour pairing in traditional Kenyan crafts.

Similarly, other bright colours found in the Kenyan art and landscape influenced the broader colour palettes. For example, the colours of the “Mocha” can were inspired by the warm tones of a sunset over the Kenyan savannah. The “Cappuccino” can displays a palette from yellow to red – colours commonly showcased in Kenyan art.
I designed the patterns after conducting visual research into African crafts to emphasise brand’s origins and values. I took a note of a variety of bright colours present in the African art and landscape, and used them as inspiration for my colour palettes.
